The battlefield looks incredibly detailed with the developers making great use of the Unity 3D engine (the same engine behind the totally excellent. Except now everything’s in HD (or 4K depending on your set up at home). This is, at least, what I consider AoE damage. Graphically, Commandos 2 HD Remaster continues the originals obsession with incredibly detailed and immersive environment. He uses his flame breath in an arch of about 180 degrees in front of him any character behind him won't take damage. Same goes for the Flame Dragon boss in Besaid. Take Stalwart's Body Slam for instance: if your characters are all huddled together closely, they will all take damage, but the farther away they stand, the less (or no) damage they take. Attacking from behind lands bonus damage and you can actually dodge some aoe's. Again however, you cannot influence this.Īs far I remember there are no AoE attacks in X-2 this is why their positions doesn't matter as well unlike XIII where there is similar system (positioning which you cannot control) but with AoE attacks.Īctually, positionning in FFX-2 is important. The same goes for FFX-2, however character positioning is a little more relevant here, as monsters will sometimes to a sort of AoE damage, which may not affect characters who are standing further away.

I guess they just wanted to make the battlefield look a bit more dynamic by not putting the characters in one straight line.

A character that seems to be in a sort of back row isn't, and will receive just as much damage to a melee attack as any other character (of course provided their Def is the same). In FFX you have no control over how far or close your characters stand.
